They simply take a lively fascination with the theatre
“Stage charm” opens up in a London exhausted of Puritan dreariness. The monarchy is reconditioned, and Charles II try a fun-loving master whose domme, Nell Gwynn, whispers mischief within his ear. Women are not allowed to do throughout the period, so every women’s parts are played by people — chief among them Ned Kynaston (Billy Crudup), just who Samuel Pepys defined in his diary as the utmost gorgeous girl regarding the London level.
Ned was most comfortable playing a female both onstage and off. It is he homosexual?
